Go Guardian & Chromebook Management

CiTi Library Media Center
How & Why use Go Guardian with Chromebooks

The Go Guardian is a great resource for managing a classroom that is using Chromebooks.  Go Guardian can be run from any computer or tablet using a web browser.  Your students must be on a Chromebook for you to view them in Go Guardian.

When using a Chromebook with a class you need to manage it just like you would any other class.  When students are on a computer they are indeed in a digital classroom and these activities need to be managed.  Using Go Guardian allows you to see who is in attendance no matter where they are located.  They can be in another classroom or being tutored at home.  You can even check in on a class when you are out for a conference or other professional development.  Just load up Go Guardian and see what your students are working on.

School districts have their own filters but sometimes they can allow access to websites that you would not want students on during a lesson.  Go Guardian gives you the ability to create "Scenes" that you set up to block those websites.  For example, when doing research and you do not want students on Wikipedia you can block that site for that session.  You can set up scenes that you can reuse over and over again.  Each one is created to meet the needs of that lesson.

Sharing Google files and websites just go easier.  You can set a scene that automatically opens a Google Doc or website as soon as a student in your class logs into a Chromebook.  This will save time and frustration for everyone.  Go Guardian makes this a simple process by using the scenes option.  You can set a default scene or you can create many different ones that you can select from a drop down menu.

Take a look at the videos below to see what can be done with Go Guardian.
